Only 19 at the time of the final siege, Spain Summerlin hailed from Tennessee. His family moved to Arkansas, finally settling in Nacogdoches. Summerlin volunteered for the Texas army in 1835 and took part in the battle and siege of Bexar. He stayed in Bexar as a member of the Bexar Guards. At the Alamo, he was a private, a rifleman in Capt. White’s infantry company.
