Eliel Melton

(1798-1836)

The son of Jonathan and Tibatha Melton, Eliel was single when he arrived in Nacogdoches, Texas, in 1830. He was a merchant, in business with Joseph L. Hood.

Besides the Alamo, Eliel also took part in the siege and battle of Bexar, serving as quartermaster to the garrison.

In describing her story of events at the final siege, Susannah Dickerson told of a defender scaling the wall where it was lowest. She said his name was ’Milton’. As several of the defenders were killed outside the walls, it is possible Eliel Melton was one of them.
