(1810-1836)
Almeron and Susannah Wilkerson were married in 1829 then immigrated to Texas from Tennessee, arriving in DeWitt’s Colony in 1831. They bought land in Gonzales in 1834 where Almeron worked as a blacksmith. Their daughter Angelina Elizabeth was born on 14 February 1834.
Almeron was one of the defenders of the Gonzales cannon, the original ’Old Eighteen’. He was in charge of the gun during the battle. In February 1836 Almeron took his family into the Alamo walls. It was there he met his death helping with the artillery battery in the rear of the chapel.
Sometimes Almeron is given the name ’Dickinson’.
